Day 5 - Community
Fewer people are going to the hill at 1:00 than 2:00, so there’s generally less of a crowd walking up to the offices on Mondays. When you’re crossing out of union station, there’s a place where several homeless men sit. I, being the sheltered girl from Wisconsin suburbs, practically farm country, still don’t know what to do. I feel like an awful human being if I do...

Lights on the Vern
6:00 wake up to read that news class was cancelled (thank god). I was so tired the night before but I made myself pack it on up. So of course in the morning I got out of bed, put boots on, grabbed my box of bad fruit, took the elevator down, and snuck outside to throw my fruit in to what I’ve dubbed, the rat bush. Yes, rats live outside my very own Madison. And I shall do my best to care...
The Muver
Today you can pick up your goodie package. Tomorrow you come on home for Thursday night TV. Friday you go to the Ben Folds concert. You are on your way to making an impact in Senator Kohl’s office. You have your roommates for next year. LIFE IS GOOD!!!
My morning’s are always made so much better by these quick little e-mails she sends. It’s so nice to have that little...

Day 4 - Another First Day
The metro was much quicker today. But as I wouldn’t want to leave you without some personal humor in these posts, how about this? I was waiting to get on the red line to Glenmont, a man came to stand next to me on the platform. Bringing with him a swarm of kids. There were at least 20 and had no sense of the fact that I was here first. That’s the most jarring thing about public...
This song came on after the game and I couldn’t help but mess around with some clips for a couple hours. There’s nothing Frank can’t make even better.

Day 3 - Faking It
Disclaimer: This post features the issue of abortion. I’d like to remind readers that I by no means am speaking for Senator Kohl or the office. What I say are my own personal opinions. With an issue that gets people so riled, I hope this quells any fires. Liz had a couple of friends over and as far as I know spent Sunday with them. I was predisposed to dislike them as I knew they’d...
I don't have to gloat
So no lengthly post today. But hot damn I love the Packers. And if I can get enough good clips of them I’m going to make a little 30 second musicy video like the NFL might do for a commercial, featuring only the Packers from this game. Give me till Wednesday, then you’ll see.
And as if tonight couldn’t get any better, with a promise of a superbowl and a warm bed and a few...

2.12 - Asian Population Studies
Note: This was hard! And I know this isn’t very good. It’s mostly a discussion of where the series is going instead of a review, but come on, character analysis is my thing. Especially Jeff and Annie character analysis. So strap yourselves in for a long review of some kind. I’m going to get better at this. But I sat down to write this after watching it for the third time...

Thursday Nights Are That Good
My quick NBC night review and full Community review are coming up, but in the mean time how about this joyful, joyful news?
NBC’s “Comedy Night Done Right” ratings started better than most of our readers expected, averaging a 2.8 adults 18-49 rating on the night. Community’s 2.2 adults 18-49 rating tied its second best mark of the season, up 16% from its last new episode. Perfect Couples’ 2.1...
DAYUMN IT!
My online TV stream it turns out is on a DELAY by I DON’T KNOW HOW MANY MINUTES! But I missed the first few minutes of Community - when I found a different channel it was already on the opening credits, and I absolutely will not start watching without that intro.
So cross your fingers this delay isn’t too long or I am going to absolutely lose it. If I have to wait until tomorrow, I,...

Back to Thursdays
We’ve had a few spoilery clips for about a week that I’ve tried to stay far away from so that I only know the most general plot points (Chang, Rich, Shirley’s Ex). But today there have been so many tweets from @nbccommunity, @nbcstore, even some of the characters. Not to mention the amazing batch of interviews that just went up (that I won’t read until tomorrow to save...
Good News
One of the things I didn’t really realized I’d missed from high school up until now was individual praise. Comments back on a paper is one (increasingly rare thing). But because so many of my classes are lectures, there’s not a lot of opportunity to show that this time, you know your stuff. Sure you could ask a pertinent question and if the professor is in the mood, he might...

Irrational Science
I keep wanting to yell at my Astronomy textbook because it keeps talking about The Big Bang Theory. I get so angry, I keep saying things like, “Don’t you know that Community is way better? GOD.” And then I realize that we’re talking about the actual Big Bang theory.
This has only happened six or seven times so far.

Out of this World
I just cracked open my astronomy book to catch up on/get ahead of all this reading. I wasn’t very enthusiastic until I flipped to the foreward - that lovely couple of pages you can smile and think, I don’t have to read this! Ha!
But whose picture should appear, but Neil deGrasse Tyson’s. Yes. THAT Neil deGrasse Tyson. I’m not kidding, this guy is famous and amazing....

Day 2 - Doughnuts and Phone Calls
Not much to report today except that I know a little more of what I’m doing.
I’m still the lone spring semester intern and was the only one today.
I’m getting quite the hang of the metro, I look at the map on my phone about half as much as I used to. The names are starting to get pretty familiar. I know I’m not in it during rush hour, but it is a beautiful system.
It...
Homeland Smells
When you think about it, is it possible to think of anything else but pancakes when you smell syrup?
No. It isn’t. And that makes this Comparative Politics class really difficult.

A Quandry Liz Lemon. A Quandry!
The day began at 6:55 to Liz’s antique phone ring alarm going off. It’s one of those alarms that does. not. stop. Well, at least for 20 minutes it doesn’t.
So in a desperate attempt to keep her from waking up (the alarm had been set so that “we” could go to the Lincoln Memorial to see the sunrise like we did on labor day - except oh wait that was with a bunch of...

Mary: Go back to Miss America
Laura: We can't, it's over.
Mary: No it's not, one of them is still crying.
Here's to Reince Priebus
Well, not really to him. But to saying Reince Priebus in varying degrees of humor and annoyance for the next two years.

But In an Act of Defiance, Hurled the Letter...
I jump into shows late. I know this. I hardly ever start watching a show in its first season, which is strange, because I absolutely hate skipping around in shows. Even in sitcoms that don’t have to go in order, for the first time I’m watching it I absolutely have to watch it from start to finish.
When the Lost season finale aired, it seemed all of facebook updated their statuses...

State of the Block: Tumblr Frustration
Disaster Strikes
This is a quick post since I think I’ve spent about 2 hours working on four posts and only three remain. In the act of trying to clean the site and my computer up, I accidentally deleted most of my posts and all of the copies I had of them that were saved on my hard drive. I’ve tried everything, and there’s nothing I can do to get them back. So I threw myself...

Day 1 - Freshman Orientation
A Brief Introduction
I’ve set aside half an hour every Monday and Tuesday to sit down and write about the internship. If I were doing one for credit, I’d have to keep a journal like this, and I genuinely enjoy having these kinds of records at the end of things, so why not? But as you’ll soon read, I had to sign a form before I could get my credentials. Part of that stated...
Spring Break Excuses
Jane: Go in on a Wednesday and use a family death.
Me: A family death? Not, like, a family emergency?
Jane: Or, a friend death?
I’m subject to the natural forces. Home is where my horse is.

Feet Bullies
Heels: Really? You can't handle us? We're only three inches tall.
Gel Insoles: Yeah. Plus we're here. What the hell is wrong with you?
Heels: Seriously. A doctor made those things. Doctor Scholl. Are you too stupid to understand that Doctors make good things?
Feet: Come on guys, stop it. Stop it!
Gel Insoles: Look, you're getting blisters. What a baby.
Neighbors like Jed
Is it bad that just for a moment I became completely okay with the idea of moving because one of the possible houses is on Bartlett Ave? Then I realized that it wasn’t perfect because it has that stupid extra T and I hated the idea of moving again.
Josh: I have a feeling you'd be a terrible house proctor.
Mary: Yes.
Josh: "Mary, Mary! You have to help me! My roommate is using our room to deal cocaine!"
Mary: "We all have to learn to live with people different than us sooner or later. Go away."
Do you wanna know what people say about the Big Bang Theory? They say...

A Good Old Fashioned Assembly
Maybe it’s just me, but starting off the session by reading the Constitution? I’d like to think that elected officials would have already read and understood their job requirements before they started work. It’s like a football game was all set to go and the play clock has started - and then the players decide to read the entire rulebook aloud, just for a little refresher.
Sophomore Year Wish List
Small Table
New Printer that actually prints double sided from a mac that will sit upon that small table. Yes. Perhaps I could afford the luxury to be able print things. And once they are printed, to not have to dive under my bed and then clog my lungs with the godawful dust. How the HELL do we have so much damn dust? All the time? EVERYWHERE? (Yes I currently keep my printer under my bed...
